STATEMENT IN RESPONSE TO BARR MANSION FIRE
In light of recent headlines, we want to assure the public and our beloved clients that the continuation with all upcoming events is our highest priority and foremost concern. The fire that happened early morning of June 9, 2010 was contained to the Ballroom structure and has not touched the Mansion or its grounds. We are doing everything possible to ensure our clients’ upcoming events are just as memorable and beautiful as originally planned. Engineers are presently on site to determine what remains can be salvaged and are already designing and securing a new barn structure. Additionally crews are on the grounds clearing debris and ensuring that the landscape is aesthetically pleasing. We are also currently constructing a fully functional structure complete with flooring, air-conditioning, fabric draping and professional lighting that will serve in lieu of the Ballroom during the construction process. All previously planned events for this weekend will go on as intended. We are deeply saddened by the situation and the loss of our Artisan Ballroom, but assure our clients that we are putting every effort towards rebuilding and continuing momentum. Thank you.

The mansion is a very romantic Eastlake Victorian home built in 1898. Heavily
laden porches surround three sides of
the home on two levels exposing old
southern extravagance no longer seen.
The interior’s eight large rooms, graced
with original art, antiques, and 100-year-old
Kerman Persian rugs – feature elaborately
carved mantles and staircases of oak
and, now extinct, East Texas curly pine.
Hand-painted ceilings adorn the parlour and dining room. |

The Artisan Ballroom is
a “green” building with soul. Huge rough-hewn
timbers from an ancient barn built in
1770 were taken apart, carefully numbered
and transported from New York’s Catskill
Mountains to form the building’s massive
framework. The front façade soars over
forty feet, is composed of delicate glass,
and allows the beauty of the inside to
be a part of the glory of the gardens
outside. |
| The gardens are beautifully
manicured for ceremonies and garden parties.
Each year more than 1,000 bulbs are planted,
blooming primarily during the winter months.
Profuse blooms of antique roses, hollyhocks,
bridal wreath, bluebonnets, fox glove,
iris and other historically accurate ornamentals
bring romance to the occasion. An oriental
Zen garden adds to the wonder. |

Our culinary prowess is well known. Executive Chef, Steven Blaisdell, formerly
of Zoots, creates an “upper-end restaurant calibur”
cuisine, to the delight of your guests. The
finest ingredients are the beginning. Organic
produce, fine cheese, fresh fish and naturally
raised meats combined with elaborate sauces
thrill the palate. Executive Pastry Chef, Alain
Braux, has been featured in the New York Times
and Texas Monthly for his “art.” His pastries
have graced the weddings of many celebrities.

Our event planners, with a total of
forty years experience, insure a perfect
wedding and reception, assisting in
the selection of everything from photographers
and bands to florists and menus. They
conduct rehearsals and choreograph the
entire event. Eternal bliss begins here.

Recent News
We would like to share some of our recent exciting news! We have been committed to sustainability for quite some time. From our recycled 1700's barn frame... to the thatch roof, we thought about each and every decision in the making of the ballroom. Our tablecloths are organic cotton and our gardens organic. In Everything we do we consider the impact to the earth and try to minimize our footprint.
We are on the path to becoming the third certified organic food restaurant / special events facility in the nation. The first was on the East Coast and the second on the West Coast and we hope to bring in the Third Coast! We are finishing up the first phase which is finding all our organic sources. Our region is rich in produce and we proudly support our local organic farmers. Our meats and poultry have been organic for some time now. The next step was a little harder. We have been sourcing grains, cheeses, oils, herbs and all the other many, many ingredients that are needed in a meal. We shop weekly at the new downtown Whole Foods and hope to partner with them in the future. The next step will be finalizing the paper work and becoming official, thus securing the organic label!
