A Brief History
Just 11 miles north of historic Palestine in East Texas, Elmwood Gardens is located on the old homestead of Doc Morrow, a self-taught veterinarian who traveled by horse and buggy to the local farms. The old, forgotten farm was falling in ruins when Jim and Dee Dee Turnage arrived from Houston to purchase the remains. With many hours of hard work, planting, shoveling, weeding and building, the Turnages transformed the farm into an intimate garden retreat; an elegant place to dine and to celebrate weddings, holidays, and special events.
The thirty-two acre farm includes bridal and honeymoon cottages, a rose garden, old fashion cottage gardens, lilly ponds, fountains, and unique garden structures. Antique iron fencing accents the old houses, dividing the kitchen and herb gardens from the wildflowers. |
